I have been practising yoga for more than 20 years and it has supported and nourished me through many different phases of my life.

I am a qualified Yoga teacher; I trained with the Bihar School of yoga and also have a British Wheel of Yoga accredited Teaching Diploma. I am presently studying and developing Yoga for Mental Health.

Integral yoga is a system of yoga that is firmly grounded in tradition and adapted to suit the needs of contemporary living.

It is a systematic, step -by -step approach to yoga that aims to integrate all aspects of our being. People who practice Integral Yoga are of all ages, levels of fitness and come from many walks of life. It provides tools for health and peace of mind.

Integral yoga is a system that is an integrated approach to yoga designed to
balance health and achieve complete wellbeing.

In the physical dimension, gentle stretching, or asanas, lubricates joints, gently stretches muscles and ligaments and other parts of the body. This can bring about toning of the nervous system, improved circulation and tension release. In the mental dimension, it can work towards concentration, improvement of memory and relaxation, whilst developing mental balance and awareness.

Breathing practice helps to cleanse and nourish the physical body and increase vital energy or prana.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

I am a qualified mental health practitioner, working for 16 years in the NHS in a variety of settings.
I qualified as a CBT therapist in September 2010; working with individuals as well as group therapy. I completed a Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy Course with Melanie Fennel in March 2012.

CBT is a therapy that can bring mental balance, restore and promote wellbeing. It is a therapy which is collaborative, structured, educational and empirical; my personal practice has lead me towards Mindfulness based interventions which encourage the development of awareness, insight and compassion and can bring about transformation and evolution to your life.

Mental health conditions that CBT has proved to be an excellent therapy for:

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

During the Free First Steps Meeting, the first time that I meet a new person who is considering having CBT, the most frequently asked questions are ‘how does CBT work?’ and ‘can it help me?’.

To answer I explain the role of a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist; CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) offers a way of understanding how your thoughts, feelings and behaviours are linked and together we explore your individual patterns and habits. The therapist guides you through understanding your unique individual patterns. Often these patterns and habits develop into having a negative impact on our everyday lives.
