3 Reasons to Try a Yoga Class Now with Ella Sendur

by Holli Young |

As the temperature starts to drop and the dark nights draw in, it becomes increasingly important to take care of the body, mind and soul.

When you don't really feel like venturing outside, attending a yoga class in a warm inviting environment can really benefit your overall health and wellbeing. Here are three (of many) reasons why you should start a yoga practice now.

1. Increased Strength in the Body

Yoga is often thought of as something which increases flexibility, however what many people don’t realise is that yoga is fantastic for increasing overall body strength and toning muscles. A flowing or dynamic yoga class will work on strengthening arms, legs and internal core muscles in a slow and controlled manner. By linking the breath with movements you reap twice the reward as calming the breath has a calming effect on the mind.

2. Increased Overall Health

By stretching and toning the body you’ll find that over time yoga helps to improve overall heath, for example you may find that your posture is improved or backspin reduced. Once you start taking better care of your body you’ll begin to find that you naturally crave things that are better for you. You may begin to choose healthier foods as they help you to feel better overall.

3. A Chance to Learn Relaxation Techniques

Most yoga classes include breathing exercises and relaxation, many of the people that come to my classes look forward to this the most as it leaves them feeling revitalised and energised. The techniques that you learn in class can easily be applied in everyday life, over time you might find yourself naturally adopting a breathing technique when you feel stressed out. Many of these principles are the same ones used in meditation where we can still the mind to increase clarity.
